It is sourced mainly from Kappaphycus Alvarezii or Eucheuma Cottonii.

It also has secondary uses in cosmetics, nutraceuticals, water remediation, fish culture, and agriculture, offering benefits such as antimicrobial properties and serving as a food additive and fertilizer.
